This post covers use case 4: treatment and monitoring of health in a pandemic. The potential for remote patient monitoring in this particular use case is staggering….The pandemic has not only exposed the need, but it has exposed the potential and accelerated development of many elements of virtual care.
This post covers Use Case 3: Chronic Conditions that Require Incremental Changes Over Time….Examples of two conditions best managed over time are obesity and stroke rehabilitation.
This post covers use case 2: acute case management through home care…..Many conditions that used to be monitored during a hospital stay are now monitored outside the hospital, in particular in the patient’s home.
One of the most frequently proposed use cases for remote patient monitoring is biometric monitoring as part of home care for individuals with chronic conditions prone to frequent exacerbations…..We discuss two examples of this use case: heart failure and asthma.
After a year when the potential and need for virtual care was validated and thrown front and center, several well-defined use cases have emerged for remote patient monitoring…..This is the first in a series of posts that introduce and discuss these well-defined use cases for remote monitoring.
What is a SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) Variant and How Does it Affect Me ….. A viral variant refers to a virus that has a genetic makeup that is different from the parent strain ….. Variants are dangerous when they have a selective advantage, such as the ability to more easily infect people, or the ability to avoid vaccine-induced immunity.
Last night another critical milestone in the battle against COVID-19 was reached. The FDA approved a Coronavirus vaccine for emergency distribution in the United States ….. Feel the hope. Our scientific, administrative, and population health systems are beginning to work effectively, together …. Allow the processes that have been developed over decades for evaluating data and defining protocols to play out.
Our deepest hope is to be a resource for you. So though we will give you the bullet points and access to public resources for the safest way to spend the holidays, we will attempt to present this in a different fashion, in an attempt to meet you wherever you are on your journey with the place of this virus in your life.
Let’s use the analogy of a battle. Imagine the enemy invaders are the virus particles. Your body’s immune cells will fight this invading army, but the numbers of the body’s immune cells that can fight the virus are limited. As this invading army gets larger, you need more defense cells or defense soldiers, better trained soldiers, or soldiers with more weapons to stay alive, to stay healthy.
Reports are emerging of vaccines that are effective in preventing COVID-19 that are near market readiness …. Even so, those familiar with the barriers that exist in vaccine administration and the persistent immunological uncertainties know of the long road ahead.
